image thumb41 Facebook To Bolster Its Mobile Division – Hires Former Google SVP Erick Tseng

Looks like hiring season is on at Facebook. We reported yesterday about the social network bolstering its security side with the inclusion of former FTC chairman, Tim Muris. Today the news rolled about the social network hiring Erick Tseng, former Senior Product manager at Google looking after the Android OS.

Saying that, I personally think that the hiring is open only if you are a ‘former something, somewhere’. Erick will be joining Facebook to bolster its mobile products and there is definitely a huge space for him to make improvements to Facebook’s mobile division and might actually bring out a really useful application for Facebook. Although there are quite a few of those for various handsets but none of them is really impressive enough to provide a satisfying experience.

image thumb109 An iPhone Worm is all you need to create to be hired as an App Developer

What is the best possible way to eliminate a threat without any lawsuits or bombardment? Offer the person a job, give respect and there you have it. We reported about Ashley Towns creating all the news about the iKee worm that crawled the iPhone and it appears that this guy from Australia has now been hired to develop apps for the iPhone. Well that is what he says. I am not sure as to why exactly he has been given this honor?

Oh yes, perhaps following the quote ‘set a thief to catch a thief’. The guy exploited the SSH vulnerability and brought it to Apple’s attention, but wasn’t it immoral of him to let go of it and have it infest the devices? Alright I am being too ethical about it and siding with those who are against his actions. Just think of it, had he gone up to Apple, brought this under their consideration, he wouldn’t have got a dime bit of attention, to be honest. That one bad act has at least got him a job where he can better utilize his talent for something more useful and less threatening!

image thumb27 Yahoos Josh Jacobs fished by Glam Media

It doesn’t make a difference if an exec quits your team or another gets fished by another. It simply means that those employees/execs see better opportunities outside and their current employer doesn’t posses that attraction. Same goes for Yahoo as its VP and GM Ad Technology Platform, Josh Jacobs was hired by Glam Media. He will join Glam as its senior Vice President of Advertising Products and Marketing. A pretty huge boost, following the 50% growth it has seen in its display revenue which is far greater given that competitors in the same have been on the negative side of the scale, Yahoo included which is still the leader in display ads.

image thumb3 Brad Garlinghouse brings his experience from Yahoo to AOL

Execs continue to flood in AOL as the new management takes over. The current one to head in is Brad Garlinghouse will take seat as AOL’s President of Internet and Mobile Communications. He will looking after its IM and mail products making a switch from his recent position as an advisor at Silver Lake Partners with a vast six years experience at Yahoo where he had worked hard to make Yahoo Mail the leading web mail service.

image thumb160 Tesla hires YouTube Exec as head of Communications

Looks like Google employees aren’t just wanted in the Web/software based firms only and even industry giants appreciate their expertise. Tesla Motors currently hired Ricardo Reyes as its first VP of communications. Reyes has had been heading YouTube’s public affairs and communications. I hope this turns out equally good for Tesla and they are able to tap maximum out of the YouTube exec.

image thumb115 While Facebook couldnt save TipJoys life, it did hire its co founder Ivan Kirigin

With the last rights been given to TipJoy, its co-founder has found a new home as Facebook hired Ivan Kirigin. Reports state that Facebook had earlier shown interest in acquiring TipJoy for around $5 Million before it walked away from the deal. Not sure what the reason was (perhaps it had spent too much on acquiring FriendFeed). As for Kirigin, we aren’t sure what are his responsibilities going to be at Facebook, but at least someone has things settled before the company fell to death.

image thumb107 Hiring open at Microsoft Stores... why is everything about Microsoft so Corporate ish?

Hiring is now open at Microsoft Stores: Mission Viejo, CA and one in Scottsdale AZ. Microsoft is looking for tech savvy folks who can help customers identify the best Microsoft product that meets their needs and are able to resolve their issues. That’s about it, but Siegler did bring about an interesting comparison between Apple and Microsoft Stores and the designation they give to the various categories of employees. For example a Retail Technical Advisor at Microsoft Store is called a Genius at the Apple Store, pretty obvious, Apple will always try and keep things meaningful but definitely not tight assed cool, something which more or less defines what Apple is. I can bet that people would definitely find a drastic difference at how they are being attended to at the two stores, do they or do they not?

image thumb59 Yahoo veteran Doug Cook joins Twitter to boost its search

Twitter continues to innovate and improve its search and to do so it will higher the most polished people. Presently it has boosted its search team by hiring Doug Cook, who will replace Abdur Chowdhury. Cook has vast experience at Yahoo where he was VP engineering and was more recently working at AbleGrape. With the vast possibilities waiting to be tapped with Twitter’s real time search, I bet Cook can lend his expertise in the field to make most of the microblogging platform.

image thumb54 Another exec leaves Google to join Twitter

Alexander Macgillivray who had been Google‘s general counsel for property and products has taken the jump and landed at Twitter. Twitter has had quite some issues with it own service primarily coming from companies that have issues with individuals adopting a brand name because they were there first, just to name a few. Macgillivray is not the first person making the jump from Google to Twitter ad I wonder what would have prompted him to do so. We aren’t sure as to what lead to him taking the decision and are equally surprised as there must be something big he has seen to quit his dream job.
