Google Maps Logo Google Map’s ‘Street View’, which was launched in the U.S. last May, is having a hard time in UK. The service is supposed to be starting this week. The Street View places snaps of different locations on the map. The point where objection was raised was that those photos contain passers-by who were present at the time when snap was taken.

When Street View was released in the U.S., Google received a few complaints from people objecting about their presence in the photo. Google then removed the snaps on people’s request.

 I just randomly came over this Windows Live site which looks like a technology preview of an upcoming feature to Live Maps. Windows Live Maps already offers Bird’s Eye View but by having a close look at this site, it looks to me that a “Drive-through” kind of a feature is coming to Live Maps very soon. Google Maps recently introduced MyMaps, a feature that enabled users to create their own maps for things such as restaurants in Chicago, Pubs in New York and so on. It seems that the maps created by the users are now integrated into Google Maps itself.

There has been a lot of innovation and development going on in the local search lately, with almost all the big players coming up with something. First Ask City launched major usability enhancements which enabled users to specify their search area by drawing an arbitrary line or shape on the map, then AOL came to the party with their own local search engine, then Microsoft Live Earth became a lot livelier with 3D maps, and now its Google to the party with the release of 2.5D maps.

The new map view does not rotate but gives a good idea about the height and dimension of the building, from the way Google has shaded the buildings. The new feature is available for around 35 cities in U.S. and Japan and is yet another step towards convergence of Google Maps and Google Earth. Google Maps team has also recently released My Maps, a feature that allows users to create their own maps, which many term as the Google Maps mashup killer.

Google Maps
Google has announced the launch of a new service, My Maps, that will allow users to create their own Google Maps Mashups.

The newly offered MyMaps allows users to plot anything from Presidential Elections 2004 to Journey Trips around the World. Users can also attach Youtube videos to the maps. Microsoft has already been offering a similar service for a while now.
