image thumb1 Yahoo Executive Exits: Flickr Mastermind Kellan Elliott Calls It A Day

It really hurts to hear about someone really important in your organization waving goodbye and calling it a day. But I guess Yahoo has been hit by that so many times now that a lot of its key members have been leaving the once leading portal on the Web. The latest to do so is Kellan Elliott McCrea.

Kellan has been a key player at Yahoo, the mastermind behind Flickr, dubbed as the brains behind Flickr, the last of the few who actually knew the A to Z of the photo sharing site. He isn’t the first of the Yahoo lot, rather as many as three key executives had left Yahoo in the last month alone. Those include:

image thumb59 Facebook Ban Followed By Ban On YouTube And Flickr By Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.. Is Twitter Next?

Today is the day for which a group was created promoting the Draw Mohammad Day on Facebook and as a result the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority was directed by the Lahore High Court to ban Facebook for an indefinite period effective from May 19. It appears that the PTA has also blocked access via proxy sites, access to social networking site via Mobile devices and any other way deemed possible. While I thought that was it, authorities here have got even stricter and have issued a ban on YouTube, Flickr as well.

This ban is temporary on YouTube and Flickr as of now, but we aren’t sure how long does temporary actually mean. Facebook hasn’t taken any action against the page stating that the page doesn’t violate any of its Terms and Conditions. I am surprised at this as many a caricatures were a direct insult to the Muslim faith and my point is justified. Of the 1 million or so Pakistani users on Facebook, 90% or so are in favor of this decision.

image thumb5 Flickr finally releases its App for the iPhone

I guess Flickr finally realized that the optimized website for the iPhone isn’t worth all the effort and had finally put out an iPhone app. The app went live today and makes Flickr more acceptable for the device. Previously it allowed photo uploads to the site via email, which was smooth but to be honest took a while. It lets you upload the photos using the button on the main page added with the slideshows. Despite all the improvements it offers, it still lacks letting easy share of photos on Twitter, for which you still have to adopt the email method.

image thumb112 First the image of President Obama (Joker) and now the entire thread.. Flickr really does support Freedom of Speech!

The home run is pretty far for this debate or rift; Flickr getting after President Obama’s remake as The Joker. The site pulled down the image and has now shut down the thread that had discussions that was quite anti Flickr. What crap! And its director of community is giving pretty hypocrite fussy reasons stating that they do support freedom of speech but there are certain speeches that need to be locked and thrown into the dungeon. Absolute rubbish, lets see how many more they axe to help define what exactly is freedom of speech they talk about.

image thumb60 Flickr accepts Twitter, lets you share photos via Email

TwitPic is going to have another one as its challenger as Flickr finally accepts letting users share links of their photos on Twitter. The photo sharing site has initiated Flickr Twitter Beta that would let users to link Twitter and Flickr accounts with an open ID and can send tweets when you feel like sharing a photo you upload through email. While the process might sound a bit tiring, but its pretty easy to use, simply add 2twitter just before the @. However it’s up to you to decide which photos you want to share rather than automatically send all the photos you upload.
