I guess the worst thing about Apple and its iPhone is that it is tied to the AT&T since its inception I suppose. There have been rumors about a change coming, the Verizon deal had been in talks for quite some time now and it appears things are settling down a bit.

I was looking to a buy a motorbike for conveyance earlier and had to go through a lot of real search, roaming the markets to find the right thing. Especially because I was looking for a second hand model. I couldn’t find one helpful site that was interactive enough to help me with finding the right thing in Pakistan. I guess many face these issues and usually come across substandard, spammy forums. Motors.pk, however rises above the norms to provide, at least a neat interface to begin with.
It isn’t anything close to CarDomain or others in the category, but when it comes to Pakistan, it is a big step forward. The idea is to provide car or bike lovers a place to sell and buy automobiles. You can search for models, narrow your search to pricing and cities where you are looking forward to make the purchase.
Quite some buyouts here and there recently and the present one is the forming of joint venture between Comcast and General Electric. The deal would have Comcast owning 51% and the other 49% held by GE. The venture will consist of Comcast’s networks and NBC Universal with the management done by Comcast Entertainment Group. It will be interesting to see how all the management goes about given that it will consist of 5 board members, three of which will be chosen by Comcast and the other two by GE.
Not all news from Germany can be bad news for all and this one is definitely good for Yahoo as Yahoo signed up a much needed deal with O2 Germany to become a mobile search and services partner. The bad part is that Google was previously the partner for the same. With this O2 subscribers will be able to access Yahoo Search across its mobile portals and Yahoo will offer sponsored ads along with the results. I just wonder how effective would this be given that it will only place Yahoo’s search box on O2 site. I mean who uses that when you have Google which is so widely used? As for facts, Google still has a 70% mobile market share in Germany compared to Yahoo 8.2%.
Things are going to get big for Apple as its deal with China’s mobile carrier China Unicom gets more concrete. Reports roll out that the two have agreed to sign a deal for a 3 year period and that both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3G S will be available to the users in China. China Unicom has more than 140 million subscribers, half of the 270 million USA for all its carriers combined. The other positive aspect is that if Apple manages to sign up more deals with other carriers, primarily China Mobile, the largest mobile carrier in the world, fortunes may change for Apple for all times to come. I guess if this happens and if Apple is able to pocket even a third of China’s mobile subscribers the iPhone devices across the globe will rise significantly. Lets just things go smooth and Apple is able to tap maximum out of all this.
Computational Knowledge engine, Wolfram Alpha wasn’t just sitting there all summer impressing folks with its results sort of. The search engine has had some thing going on all this time before it spilt out that it had signed a deal with Bing. Though Wolfram Alpha hasn’t really made huge leaps in terms of progress compared to the ever growing popularity of Bing, the search engine does provide better results for queries that involved computational. Now if we take Bing, it gives results for almost anything you are searching and in a different way for different categories of search, but then Microsoft had more than a $100 Million to invest in its advertising alone. But I guess there is plenty of room for this deal to grow if only Wolfram Alpha steadies it growth amongst users and do something about the quacked results it sometimes throws on users.
There is some sort of partnership underway, presently Nokia and Microsoft are all set to announce their partnership. This will largely be for the Web based version of Office which Microsoft has in works. The idea might be to bring the Office to the mobile devices that Nokia manufactures, I am just presuming that, which sounds quite justified as there is nothing else I think can happen. Whatever the reason be, it isn’t new to hear both Nokia and Microsoft teaming up.
Somehow I am not at all surprised when I read Yahoo has once again burst all bubbles of a possible search deal with Microsoft. To be honest I would have had my mouth hanging for days to come had Carol Bartz accepted the offer. Along with this, she also made sure that Microsoft heard her loud and clear when she stated that all Bing would do in the search market is to have a mere bump and nothing else. Also worth mentioning is that if there is any acquisition that will be made it will come from Yahoo on a very small scale. Either Bartz has Merlin powers or she found some Nostradamus’ predictions that warn Yahoo about signing any deal with Microsoft. Anyone with better clues?
Just as I had thought, reports of Yahoo CEO, Carol Bartz meeting with Steve Ballmer, Microsoft‘s CEO have erupted once again. Now this isn’t new and we all know where all this usually ends. So what exactly are they going to discuss? Perhaps talking about signing up a deal that might give Carol Bartz’s Yahoo boatloads of money. We all know that both have exactly what the other offers, Microsoft the cash and Yahoo, the data (as Bartz said). But is this really going to turn out positive? I mean what exactly is Microsoft going to do, especially now when it is to initiate another search engine, Bing. Whatever way this ends, one thing is for sure that blogs will be reporting about Microsoft/Yahoo more often.
