Most gifts are too impersonal. A small team of developers and artists came up with a gift idea that digs deeper than anything before it and we did it in a fun, simple way. How many times has a loved one asked, "Why do you love me?" I bet many folks out there must have come across this question at least once in their lifetime. And I am sure many would have loved to have this answered by someone else, hence comes LoveBooks a site that allows users to select, edit and create pages of a book that list all the reasons why they love someone. LoveBooks prints the book, binds it as per your need; the hard bound or paperback and it is shipped to you.

How many of you really love reading books and are an avid follower of any new publication of one in the genre you love? I bet there are many who just love keeping an eye on the latest books in the market, if not read them. What is troubling is that you either have to be in the mailing list of a particular publishing house or have a friend inform you about one. In any case it isn’t really very quick. In comes AnyNewBooks, a startup that focuses on keeping you updated on this.
AnyNewBooks, as the name suggests keeps an eye on numerous categories of books, be it fiction, programming books or any for the matter. This ensures that you remain updated on whatever category of books you follow by alerting you on a new publication. There are at present around 42 or so categories to cater to various tastes of book lovers. The selection is made by human editors who ensure that book lovers, when they sign up for the service receive a weekly update on the latest releases in the numerous categories.
When you talk about being a part of the Web 2.0 or the mobile arena, speed and convenience is what should be readily available. Same should be applied to buying books, those academic or general books on any subject. Book.ly is another startup that ensures that a college student finds the books he is looking for at one place at the most convenient of rates.
Here’s the catch, Book.ly promises to assist students by finding their required books and save up to 40% in price. Now that is a huge sum you save given the fact an average college student would spend over $700 on books each year and that saves him $280, which is quite a big amount. Now, this isn’t some random cheap bookstore aggregator that gives you links to external stores where you can buy books, rather it partners with numerous clubs, campus organizations in a university. The partnership is based on profit sharing, where Book.ly shares up to 20% of profits with a charity or even the club itself.
Maybe I have been out of touch with Google Books but if I recall correctly the last time I reported about this was about Lawsuit, signing deal with CoolerBooks and that’s it. Today the news broke out that the search engine is just beginning to step into books this summer. The search giant will go head on into the battle of Digital Books against the well set Barnes & Noble Inc., Amazon and Apple. This is set to happen by July this year.
With Google, users will have the privilege to read books across numerous sites and more importantly have support multiple devices. This will be made possible with Google Editions the new service it will be launching to act as a platform to purchase copies, find books with its search. Apart from that it will also enable retailers to make sales using Editions right from their own sites.
While the entire Web maybe after Google with signing deals with eBook readers, Google itself is busy with expanding its eBook empire. Presently the big boss in search signed up a deal with Interead, the firm behind the eBook store, COOLERBOOKS. The firm is not only into providing ebooks to the masses but also manufactures eBook readers call COOL-ER, which cost $249 in the U.S and supports 19 formats which include PDF and MP3 format for audio books. This deal is definitely going to give Amazon a hiccup, given that Google is partnering with the many eBook reader manufacturers and rapidly expanding business, but it remains to be seen how successful Google actually is with these proceedings.
Google Books has undergone a major update today as it released new features. These features will help improve the link between readers and online books. The features include:
Improved Search within books: This would enable users perform searches within the book. Whenever a reader performs a search, users see an image of the part of the page where the word is present, upon clicking, the user is taken directly to the page.
