del.icio.us has launched a new firefox plugin that integrates del.icio.us into your browser sidebar. The new sidebar displays your tags and bookmarks and allows you to quickly search for your bookmarks and even modify them. Techcrunch notes that del.icio.us was previously quiet slow had now undergone major upgrades to enhance speed and performance. In my testing I however had to take a walk during the syncing process. It might be due to a rush from the 2 million existing users to try out the functionality, but the lag was certainly too much to bear.

The add-on is certainly a major productivity and usability enhancement from del.icio.us. The trend of capturing the user´s browser sidebar has suddenly taken off with GoogleTalk becoming a gadget in the sidebar, Mozilla offering social networking features on the sidebar and now del.icio.us joining the party.
