I have always emphasized on the significance of the Arab world for the Web. There is so much to build upon and giants of the Web can make actually leverage the ever expanding web population to their benefits. Plus it would also help bring the innovation in the region that is often tied down due to lack of investment in the ideas. Yahoo recently acquired Maktoob and Google has been doing its penetration work for almost a year with a variety of its products being rolled out in Arabic. Google today launched the Arabic version of its Google Site plus the release of Google News’ Arabic Edition for United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. This would attract more people as they will be able to read news in their native language about politics, business, sports, etc. I appreciate the move and look forward to more of such steps being taken, to be honest if Google and Yahoo have done this, others will soon follow, I mean who would want to stay behind?
