Surveillance over the Web, Via a Cloud with GoToMyCamera

It’s an online Web 2.0 solution built on Amazon S3 Web Services for managing video from network cameras for security applications. You’ll never run out of storage space using GoToMyCamera thanks to Amazon S3.

The catch with GoToMyCamera is that it only supports Axis Network cameras at the moment. Analog cameras and other network cameras are supported through the Eptascape video analytics Detection System.

The service will use the motion detection of the cameras and will upload any motion detected event to a server over the Internet. The cameras and videos are protected by passwords for security purposes. Also, it just needs a browser to work. Luckily, it supports IE, Firefox and Safari (Chrome and Opera, anyone?), so you wont be caught in any issues there. There is no limit in the video size that can be recorded and uploaded to the servers as Amazon S3 is a ‘pay for storage as you go’ service.

Multiple cameras are supported for live viewing in GoToMyCamera. The video is available at both low and high resolution, in MJPEG format, to suit your connection speed. The frame rate depends on the connection and can vary from 1 to 3 frames per second. The video history is organized in a reverse chronological order. And the videos are streamed in a flash format from the server. Video transcoding is also available in different formats which include Flash, MPEG-4, H.264, MJPEG.

Event notifications can be set for email, Google Talk, Jabber, XMPP servers, AOL/AIM and ICQ in realtime. SMS can also be set for event notifications.

The service starts from as low as $5/month to $30/month with different support for number of cameras, users, space and additional space. There is also a $5 sign up fee included for all packages.

GoToMyCamera has potential to become a low cost choice for people looking for surveillance. The use of a could service grants it a ‘ accessible anywhere’ tag which goes in its benefit, along with the unlimited storage.
