Sun Microsystem has confirmed that the company has laid off 1,300 employees. The job cuts are part of the restructuring plan which was first announced in November last year. According to the plan, around 6,000 employees are expected to lose their jobs. According to the company the job cuts are made across all the levels.
According to a statement released by the company:
The cuts are part of a restructuring of the company, Sun said, that are intended to save between $700 million to $800 million each year. The company said it believed the restructuring would “result in a more efficient coverage model with resources aligned to growth opportunities.
