Another service makes its way to the web scene and it’s about music.

StumbleAudio is a Social music discovery and its purpose is to help users come across new and exciting artists instead of simply playing, buying or selling the artists that are already known. And isn’t it better to lend an ear to new rhythms and artists apart from what you already love. Presently the catalog consists of a mammoth 2,000,000 tracks and more than 120,000 artists, now that’s a huge number and I thought that there are merely a few hundred.

The recommendation engine came into being with numerous imports from data saved across favorites the web, buying patterns from various stores, and like Stumbleupon, StumbleAudio also learns user preferences from thumbs up and thumbs down and keeps itself updated on what music it offers based upon your liking.

The more you use the more it learns is the factor involved if users are to get better results from their stumbles. Its worth it for a start, and is set to make improvements with time as the users put it to use with continuous stumbling. The service in time is to introduce various social network applications and widgets, making the idea of sharing music over various social networks easy.

Another interesting offering it has is one to pay the artists’ for their songs that are played and its not in any sort of association with Stumbleupon or the likes. What I think is that the developers have utilized the concept pretty well to bring innovation to music recommendation. There is no add-on for The Internet Explorer or Firefox (although I would love it to be there on my explorer), the service lets you share your favorite songs.

Another key function that makes it better than Stumbleupon is that one doesn’t have to press the ‘Stumble’ button all the time. Once you hit stumble it brings up a random track and others in a cover flow pattern; users can move across these tracks to get their ears at what they need to listen. Its not like a playlist; which means that if you head on to the next title, the previous one disappears, similar to a news you stumble at Stumbleupon. The layout is elegant and the service much needed, oh and unique in a way that it relieves one of the traditional functioning of music sites/songs. But as I said before; they need to give us that toolbar……please.
