Steve Ballmer keeps riding the waves when it comes to the Yahoo deal and appears pretty indecisive. After putting down any chances of a deal with Yahoo, he has now said chances are bright for a Yahoo deal before the end of this year. In an interview to the WSJ the CEO stated:

I think good ideas are usually better done quickly than slowly, so it would probably be better for both us, and certainly for Yahoo, if we were to do it sooner than later. But at the end of the day, that would have be something Yahoo would be as interested in as I have expressed our interest.

But Ballmer has made his intentions clear that Microsoft doesn’t need a partnership with anyone to compete Google:

We’re fully prepared to compete without any partnership with Yahoo. We need to act.
