Statushq keeps your group connected - A twitter for Groups

Saad Ali Abbasi

Status_logoStatus is a lightweight group communication tool. Groups of people can use this service to keep in touch and share with each other what they’re doing, and where they are. The interface is designed to suit easy-navigation of the website. The core is the ‘Status’ (blue) bar, where you let your group know what you’re doing, and where you are.

Updating your status, notifies your list of friends (group) and them only, since the service is all about private groups. Users can be part of as many groups as they want, and invite people from other social networks as well. Status is a pretty simple web application, with a basic function of letting everyone in on each other’s updates.

Email, phone, instant messaging… These are tools that are vital to our productivity, but they share one common undesirable trait. They are HEAVY. They demand a significant portion of our attention and we can’t control when that next beep or ring is going to happen.

Well, the updates to this service are only limited to what you’re doing and where you are, so there’s really not much at offer. It’s probably a private application that evolved into a full-fledge (light) service for others to use as well.

The following cuttings from the Status website will give you an insight into its function.

Status is part of a new trend of LIGHTER communication tools. When you need to get up to date with your group, a single screen shows what everyone is doing and where they are. This means you can stay in touch on your own terms, without using heavy attention-stealing tools like email.

Some time tracking tools make you click a stopwatch on and off for every new task. Not only is this a pain, it’s not how real life works. Life is full of multitasking and prone to interruption. Status makes keeping track of yourself much more casual. When did I last work on that logo? Last Tuesday? Didn’t I work on it for about three hours? With Status, you can easily browse back through your updates and see what you were doing and when. Still pretty casual, but much more accurate than your memory.

Sometimes web-based applications just don’t gel with your workflow. Not everyone lives in their browsers. Updating on the web with Status is very easy, but it’s only one of the many ways to update your Status. If you are on the run, you can update by sending a SMS text message. If you are a Mac user, there is a dashboard widget. There are more features coming down the line to make updating your Status even easier!
