Akamai released its first quarter report for the “State of the Internet�. The report is very informative, covering a wide range of topics related to internet traffic, security, network access and connection speeds.
The report highlighted many issues some of the interesting stats present included;
Attack traffic generators; which highlighted the percentage traffic generated from various countries. China headed the list with the United States following in at second place.
The ports targeted by attack traffic; they include 23 unique ports (of well known services and some arbitrarily selected).
The port that got hit the most was 135 (used for remote procedure calls on Microsoft OS) , with 30% attacks. The report mentions hack attacks on sites that were high profile, where the damage was minimal; while on others they proved to be disastrous.
The report also shows the countries with the fastest broadband connectivity; where South Korea takes the lead as the country with the fastest connections to Akamai (at over 5Mbps). Also mentioning countries that provided the slowest connectivity at less than 256Kbps (Rwanda topped the list with 97% connections below 256Kbps).
