Startup seesmic raises $6 million in the 2nd round of funding

seesmic Logo Startup ‘seesmic’, that let users post short video comments and snippets, has raised around $6 million in the second round of funding. Omidyar Network (created by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar) and Wellington Partners led the round.

The site allows its users to post short video clips to their blogs, social networks or even the site itself, it is more like Twitter of video. Also it let its users post video comments on other blogs whose discussions are powered by Disqus.

The San Francisco based company says that it provides video to 1500 blogs and sites. After raising current funding, the total funding amount has risen to $12 million.

Also it has just released a new feature which is an embeddable video that supports threaded comments. It means that one can view the video of an entire conversational thread. This leads to another problem i.e. sites may not afford too many comments embedding in a single video. Anyway the site is bringing some innovation in the commenting process in order to make it more lively.

Video comments have yet to prove their effectiveness if compared with text comments on a blog or a post on Twitter. The reasons are simple, a video takes  a lot of time to load if compared to text comments which needs only a few seconds. Secondly one might want to view some segments of the comment which is only possible if the comment is in text. The service is not popular right now but I believe it will be popular in future when we will have less Internet speed issues.
