A Home virtual world is set to be released soon by Sony, as the company has been busy running beta tests with thousands of users since a few weeks. The launch is expected to come this fall, on the PlayStation Network. Home is thought to change Sony’s position in its console battle with Nintendo and Microsoft, as it has been under the works since 18 months now. Home will bring a virtual online space where gamers will be introduced to experience a social networking environment alongside the games.
Though the characters need some work expressing themselves well, that should be upgraded as the game progresses. Director of Home for the U.S. game division, Jack Buser, says:
“It’s really a 3-D social network for gamers… Home is a living, breathing space.”
Here’s the good news: Home is free for those owning a PS 3. Of course networking means you can also communicate with other players, or rather avatars, moving next to them and typing the text you want. And it’s not a bother with the game controller either. All in all, the Home will constantly change, with gamers’ likeness kept in mind, through community feedback, and will look to upgrade and expand further, Buser mentioned.
