With an immense growth in the BitTorrent’s sites, there is also an abrupt increase in the search engines that are indexing these sites. Usniff is the latest arrival to join the amaranthine spirit of serving BitTorrent sites. Its a meta-search engine exclusively designed to search the leading BitTorrent sites in a real time.
Usniff is currently supporting 5 sites namely The Pirate Bay, Mininova, isoHunt, BitTorrent and Monova. Its a flexible dedicated BitTorrent search engine that has genuinely carved a way to provide a real, fast time search results with a fascinating UI. Search results are sorted according to upload date, torrent name, file size, search engine, peers and seeds.
Usniff co-founder, Samo told TorrentFreak that he is planning to add more BitTorrent sites probably in the next month.
I have not yet made a complete wish-list, but btmon.com, bitenova.nl and torrentbox.com will definitely be added in September.
He also talk about Usniff’s existence, inspiration and idea.
My inspiration was YouTorrent.com, before it sailed to clean waters. It is simple to use, responsive and has loads of good results for almost any search query. At that time I didn’t know about other similar meta-search engines, so I decided i’d try to make one myself – mostly for fun.
However, there is always an additional gift in the form of legal issues with the sites like Usniff. As soon as there is a new entry in the BitTorrent sites or search engines it has to face scalable amount of Legal protest and threats. One of the recent example is YouTorrent, a site that was incubated in the beginning of this year and is heading towards success with an accelerated pace had suffered great criticism during its initial days on indexing all the popular torrent sites. This irrational legal threat forced YouTorrent to switch over to only legalized torrent sites. Thus, Samo is also well prepared for this kind of issues and is confident enough that he is not going to face any legal issue as his site is fully legitimised.
I actually do expect legal problems. Worst case scenario is that I’ll have to move it to a server in a less strict country.
Overall, the site is a good addition in the BitTorrent meta-search engines. However, it has to face many challenges to keep on working as it is fully dependent on the public trackers. Popular BitTorrent site The Pirate Bay is already facing many legal threat in most of the countries. Though, search engines like Usniff can get much popularity, as legal threats for BitTorrent sites acts as a catalyst for traffic generation and thus will also results in the frequent usage of the search engines that would be indexing those sites.
