SiteMeter gets an upgrade and rolls back to the old layout

The latest version offers users new charts and graphs that enable one to get all reporting about the sites performance at a glance. That comes added with a better and more accurate reporting of page views and unique visits.

The most prominent feature of the new SiteMeter is to let users handle all their accounts via a single user ID. This is added up with more privacy; as in you control the amount of access others have to your site’s stats.

With quite a lot of tools to offer for site analytics and already a major competitor in the form of Google Analytics clouding the scene, there is more than just a redesign needed to boost its place higher in the competition.

We at Start Meme had been using the same tool for analytics and had been waiting for the update, but it didn’t offer much to us. The reason could very well be that we had been used to the old layout and with time could have adjusted but before any time could pass, SiteMeter rolled back its design and was up with the old one. There were flaws at reporting our page views and visits and it didn’t work for a good number hours for our site. By the time it actually started to report things, the team at SiteMeter pulled its plug and had the old version up.

I guess SiteMeter must first resolve the core issues and analyses and reporting before decorating itself with state of the art charts and graphs. For the meantime, we here are thankful that SiteMeter is back in business the way it was. And their blog post reads a pretty sensible strategy at rolling out new designs in future:

Our intention is and has always been to offer you, our customer’s better tools and more accurate data. Obviously we fell short of this.  The first thing we need to do, moving forward, is to roll out new product releases in parallel to our current platform.  This will give everyone a chance to try out, evaluate, and comment on our new concepts.
