SiPort shooting was not triggered by layoffs but rather by firing, according to a statement issued by the company. It seems that the Jing Hua Wu was fired from his job individually and not as part of a massive layoff. Wu is currently in custody and underinvestigation by the Santa Clara Police Dept. In an email sent to Om Malik by SiPort’s investors Morgenthaler Ventures said:

SiPort has never had a general layoff at the company and in fact, the company added to its staff in 2008. SiPort started shipping their HD Radio chips earlier this year and the customers seem to really like it. We were not laying people off.
