You must have been familiar with Plurk & Twitter. If you have used any of the mentioned services then you would be aware of the fact that it lets you upload the text or links but nothing else (what else can be expected from micro-blogging services?). But now you can even upload snaps with PlurkPix. It is a website that allows you to upload pictures which appears in the tweet/plurk message.
The interface of the site is very simple and catchy. Right now the site allows you to upload images in JPEG, PNG & GIF file formats only. You can upload snaps of size upto 4 MB. One of the good things of the website is that it doesn’t require you to register and its free too. Cool, isn’t it?
Once you enter the site, all you got to do is to select a picture and upload it. In the next step, you have to choose the micro-blogging service in which you want to display the image and write its user id and password. Then you can add any message with the snap. The snap acquires space of 40 characters which means that you can add message of upto 100 characters (that would be enough for caption). You will see the image as well as the image link of the uploaded snap on this page. Once you are done, you can submit it and thats it. Easy isn’t it?
I have tried to upload the snap to the twitter account many times, but couldn’t do it, instead it showed the message saying “Twitter API is down, sorry. I don’t know if twitter is really getting back. The Florida based company is currently running ad free and the creator of the service, Martin Bogomolni, wants to keep it that way. According to the site creator:
Plurkpix.com is made possible by you, the user. It is currently ad-free and I hope to keep it that way. It takes about $200/month to pay the bandwidth bills, and an inexpensive server costs about $500, and perhaps the occasional pizza to feed the programmer. If you feel this service has been valuable, please consider donating a couple dollars!
The id and password of the user is not saved on the site, the only information saved is the IP address of the uploader, type of file uploaded, date and time when the file is uploaded.
There are a few things they might need to consider in order to improve their service. If you’re on the upload page of the site, you can’t find the link of the homepage so they need to put it up. Also, more image as well as other file format support can be added. Overall the site is good but to make it more popular they can start activities involving users.
Update:
The site now contains a link of homepage on the upload page.
