‘Search is Number 1!’ So speak Google property break-up

Sardar Mohkim Khan

Google We had recently reported the breakdown of Yahoo properties based on the detail and this week we viewed another report from Heather Hopkins at Hitwise Intelligence providing the breakdown of Google Properties. The recent upheavals faced by Google (both ways round) with the court asking or the IPs of the YouTube users to the launch of Lively, Google’s Virtual world have caused quite a stir in the Web-world.

The analytics performed break Google by listing up its 20 properties according to the market share of Internet visits in the US in June, 2008. The given data shows the percentage of visits to the concerned services provided by Google, including the Search, YouTube and Gmail.

There is absolutely no need to keep that mouth hanging at seeing that the Search superceded other Google services with a gigantic 68.64% share with the next closest competitor being YouTube with 10.24% visitor share. This reveals why search plays a vital role in Google’s business and one reason what makes the entire search business all across the web so dependant on Google Search.

Google to Google

Hitwise’s graph for the upstream visits reveal that the recent visits have shown a jump of 20.52% at Google.com from 18.15% last year. A lot can bee grasped and an even more predictions be made at this rise that shows a rise by 2.37%. If this were to continue without any change there would be a phenomenal growth in visits made to Google; thus maintaining it as the Master of the Search business.

It is also quite surprising how Google has managed to maintain and more importantly continually increase its user-base (read: business) despite slumps in other competitors in the like of Yahoo and Microsoft. While both Microsoft and Yahoo try desperately to grope at the number 2 and 3 positions with newer services (BOSS for Yahoo) and Microsoft acquiring Powerset and various other services to boost their user-base. Google humbly sits atop with more than 70% of the market share in its pocket.

And why should it be worried? Googling has become an addiction for the Webbers and addictions are impossible to rid oneself off.
