ErrorKey LogoIn this age of technology, you are bound to use several systems/softwares (specially the IT people) in order to make your life easy and entertain yourself. While using any system, you come across different error codes. Some of them you may know while others are alien to you, and collecting information about those specific errors/codes is not an easy job. Now you don’t have to worry anymore, because now you have an error related search engine i.e. ‘ErrorKey’.

Searching plays an important part in the life of not only an IT professional but others as well. There are different search engines available for different sort of specific stuff like pdfSearchEngine for pdf files, Kigose for schools, Tagoo for MP3 search, ExpatFinder for expat related sites, etc. ‘ErrorKey’ is an induction in this category.

ErrorKey has bought several error codes and messages at one place making your life easier. Now you don’t have to run a search on any search engine using specific keywords. All you have to do is to write the code of any error in the search box and it will display you the list of error messages along with the name of that system (e.g. HTTP, SAP, SYMBIAN, etc), version, ID (if applicable), status and a link to other similar errors.

A single error code can be available in several systems, so in order to differentiate the system of the name is displayed.

Lets have a look at an example so that you can understand it easily. While surfing on internet, you may have come across various errors, one of the famous being HTTP 404 -  Not Found. Now if you have to find about this code, just write the code in the search box and a list of errors will appear in front of you. This means that the list will contain all the supported systems with the same error code. Have a look at the snap below to in order to get a clear picture.

HTTP error 404

The list contains not only the HTTP, but also SAP and SYMBIAN error codes. It also has all the errors which have the number 404 e.g. –20404 which is a SYMBIAN error code and contained 404 so it is also displayed.

Currently the systems supported by ErrorKey are:

Oracle, Sybase, Apple, Cisco 6400, Unix Solaris, Cisco IOS, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SAP DB, Borland C, PlayStation, SQL Server, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, Crystal Reports, Nintendo Wii, Python, HTTP, Symbian, Mozilla, Windows NT, Outlook, Amazon S3, XML, Adobe Flash, ColdFusion, SilverLight and Google Urchin.

A link of every supported system is present on the homepage. Clicking on any of them will show you all the codes starting from the very first one till the end.

According to the website, they gather data from various resources like by running their crawler on the internet, through books, from the founder’s experiences and through the contribution of various people.

The goal of the startup is:

to grow the repository every day in order to help you find significance to errors you encounter and provide advice for a fix.

The application was first implemented on an in house application. On the implementation of the application, the founders says:

We first implemented ErrorKey as an in house application to help us in our work by quickly get resolution to errors. After sharing it with a group of friends, hackers like us, we got good feedback and decided to make it available to the public.

User feedback is also welcomed and you can give any suggestions.

Homepage of ErrorKey

The interface of the website is very simple but it doesn’t seem that attractive. To make it more attractive they need to play a little with the colors. As far as service is concerned, it is working fine, though there is always a chance of improvement. The service can further be improved by adding a little more information about the errors along with the possible solutions. This startup is certainly a very good idea and I hope they will make some positive changes in order to improve and gain more popularity.
