Scribd, the Youtube of documents has gone through a major and much needed redesign. The website, full of content, was a mess. Now it has changed all that, and cleaned up it’s layout. Now there’s a very prominent scrolling interface in the homepage, which shows the hottest content in a vertical scrolling widget. The search box also looks more highlighted as that is one of the major features required to browse through the vast collection of content on Scribd.
As TechCrunch says,
The site has long been hampered by a messy homepage that wasn’t attractive for first-time visitors, displaying a list of its top features in lieu of a YouTube-esque stream of featured documents. The old design made it clear that Scribd worked well as a utility, but didn’t make it attractive as a destination site. Now, the new site highlights a sampling of its top documents and includes a number of UX changes that Scribd hopes will remedy this issue.
The logo has also been changed from the yellow document to a much cleaner one with various colors as seen in the above image. Also the new design is focused to make search more prominent, as Scribd gets around 10 million visitors per month from search engines. The new design is a refreshing change from the old one, and no doubt makes the service easy on eyes and more pleasurable to use.
