For those of us who value fitness over any and everything else, demands for services that provide them a check on all their activities remains number one priority. They would grab on whatever they find worth having their hands at in order to watch out on the ‘ah so important fitness routine’. I am myself one of those head eaters, and had always felt a need to chart out how much I run, walk during the course of the day and like many couldn’t keep a check on it. Using a stopwatch and recording sounds so prehistoric in the present age.
It is here I get my eyes at the Runkeeper; a service, as the name suggests Keeps your Runs save; which means using this runners now have an application to record details like, speed, duration per mile, distance etc onto this website. Satellite keeping an eye on you? Not exactly, but they have build up an application for the favorite gadget; your iPhone.
How is it done? Should I be explaining all this when it’s said that the application can be downloaded from the App Store and once that is aid, it means all that has to be done is log-on to your account by hitting the ‘Runkeeper’ icon on your iPhone and voila! You have the settings page available; here you can decide whether you want your data to be logged on to the Runkeeper’s account or only sent to the App Store; along with what unit of distance you need to keep (Kilometers or miles).
The interface that appears once you are done with settings, displays the following:
Since the device utilizes GPS, one needs to be in an open area in order to have your position being locked:
For best results, you should use the application outside in an area with clear line of sight to the sky. Thick trees, tall buildings, or heavy cloud coverage can sometimes get in the way of GPS reception. Once you are in a good coverage area and hit ‘Track Run’, it usually takes 30 seconds or so to determine your location.
The applications records your runs and keeps track of your running history in order to let you see any improvements you have made over time. The distances you have run across are plotted onto Google maps, so that you know how much you ran, at what pace and at what place. And folks this isn’t limited to walks on foot, one keep track of the pace and distance on a cycle ride etc as well. A good application and worth the price tag of $9.99 for one time download.
However there is one drawback; the accuracy is affected by the Wi-Fi and in order to improve it one needs to disable it plus it wont provide you great results if your runs/sprints are over a short distance or one that is in irregular pattern (zig-zag) but that isn’t the applications shortcoming, it’s something to do with the GPS, it utilizes to fetch and record data.
