Qik, the leading mobile live video streaming platform has decided to expand its reach beyond the 70 cell phone. In it’s press release, the Qik team has announced the expansion of its service to even more cell phones from Sony Ericsson and Nokia. This puts live streaming into J2ME.
This would enable more users to engage in live streaming using the free service , this includes chatting with the broadcaster. In the release, Ramu Sunkara, co-founder and CEO of Qik stated:
It’s a real milestone for mobile technology that an advanced utility like Qik is now Available on mass market cell phones. We have been astounded by the use of Qik by smartphone owners, and are excited to see what mass market cell phone users will stream live to the Web.
Qik has now extended its support for the following devices:

- Nokia 6500 slide
- Nokia 6555
- Nokia 8800 Arte - Sony Ericsson JP-8 Phones:

- Sony Ericsson W908
- Sony Ericsson K660
- Sony Ericsson G502
- Sony Ericsson Z750
Nokia’s VP, Tim Libretto commented on this stating:
Nokia is pleased that Qik’s innovative live video service is now available for owners of Nokia feature phones as well as Nokia smartphones
Qik is heading on into the right direction with providing its services to an even larger number of users. Let’s wait and see how many more sets can have the support for the service.
