POPrl allows its users to shorten their links by displaying popular links at the top of its main page. The site by uLiken’s developers can be regarded as a good combination of Reddit and Snurl.
The site works on an algorithm that actually monitors the number of clicks and mark the popularity of links from this computation . So, instead of focusing on the rating technique the site focuses on the interest of its users by marking their number of clicks. Users can shrink URL without the hectic registration process and this enables them to quickly send their links to different social bodies and networks. I shortened my Blog’s URL, and it provided me with an equal but shorter form of it.
The service would be a good venture, but what about the spammers? It is not depicting any idea of avoiding cumbersome spams. According to its co-founder Sam, the site is displaying list of headings that are actually pulled out from the original sites decreasing the chance of displaying a spam link with a fake heading. The idea somehow seems to be effective but users cannot judge the whole story through a single heading.
I clicked some links and most of them worked fine excluding couple of links that directs me to nothing or some other weird page. POPrl seems to be a good contribution in the Internet market, but it has to include more submissions to broaden its number of available popular links for users. It can also introduce the shorter registration process to filter out the useful links and avoid spam.
