Picasa Web Albums now allow users to create private albums which force users to sign-in in order to view an album, making sure that only the people whom you allow could view the albums. Although the privacy feature was available for a while, but had the potential to get breached every now and than. One (un)intentional consequence of this move would be that every person with whom you share your albums would need to have a Google account.
