Photoshop for Mobiles ( iPhone version coming too! )

Who doesn’t know about Adobe Photoshop? Adobe has taken Photoshop to new levels by taking it online to Photoshop Express, and releasing new features with every release of Photoshop. But now the most unimaginable is to happen. Adobe is taking Photoshop mobile.

ReadWriteWeb has reports that Photoshop.com will be available to smartphone users of the Motorola Q9m/h, Samsung Blackjack I/II, and Palm Treo 750w/700w/wx starting next month for free. It’ll be a downloadable service. There is no news on whether users will be able to edit their photos on their mobiles using Photoshop, although if they wont be able to edit them, one might wonder why call it Photoshop? Just like Flickr and Blogger are available as photo publishing platforms amongst others on Nokia and Sony Ericsson mobiles, Photoshop.com would also serve as a storage space for mobile photos. Users will be provided 5 GB of free storage which could be upgraded to Photoshop Plus to bump to 20 GB for a fee

Users of Shozu.com will also be able to access their Photoshop.com accounts and support for more phones will be coming shortly including,

  • iPhone
  • BlackBerry Pearl
  • Motorola Razr
  • Nokia 5310
  • Nokia 6301

One has to wonder why provide an application in the name of Photoshop, the most respected photo editing software in the world, without its editing features on the mobile. No doubt a little touch up and red eye editing features can be implemented on mobiles, and Sony Ericsson already provides an image editing tool with cropping, red eye, touch up and various other editing options available. The iPhone app for Photoshop would be the most interesting one though, as the interface would allow image editing to be taken to another level. It’s only up to Adobe to take advantage of these mobile platforms in the best way possible, and just providing a storage space doesn’t seem to be on of those ways.

  2. thecolor Says:

Well, this is just partly cool! Partly uncool since it seems to exclude the Symbian platform! Uh, HELLO!

  3. sampat Says:

if they design photoshop for mobile then edit option is necessary otherwise it is meaningless

  4. thecolor Says:

@sampat I totally agree. There are so many other services out there that offer image storage… if we do that via our mobile, we already use one or more. So, offer editing ability or just don’t offer it. :P And there is no reason it can’t be built in Java for all devices, or with flashLite.
