Outside.in: connect your blog’s RSS feed to your StoryMaps, now for free!

Saad Ali Abbasi

Outside.in has allowed access to StoryMap, their GeoToolkit embeddable maps, now for free. This offers bloggers to promote their local content in a visual format. Bloggers can now connect their blogs RSS feeds to their StoryMap, and also embed it on their site. StoryMap completely change the blogging experience, allowing you to display your previous blogs through StoryMaps’ non-linear timeline. This prompts you to show your old posts as well as the new ones, thereby removing the previous habit of burying your own posts with each new one.

All you need to do is customize the map and then it generates the embed code itself. So here’s how StoryMap works: If you’ve blogged about an eat-out place, it’s likely to be lost somewhere in your blog; though with StoryMap the places pop-up on the map, showing your tagged visits from your neighborhood. This’s a fine service if you blog about places, events and as such, as it allows creating a visual navigational system for your blogs. There are a couple of other features (Outside.in’s Radar; Yahoo’s Fire Eagle integration) that tag along and provide for a good blogging experience.
