No it wasn’t about creating or re-inventing the web or a way to celebrate their years when Opera talked about re-inventing the Web on June 16. The buzz was about Opera Unite; its step to turn your machine into a Web Server with the aid of Opera Browser. Opera Unite would enable users to share, documents, videos, photos, etc. Not only that it would also enable users to utilize its platform and create their own apps, using its APIs. No need to install a third party software, no issues with what OS you are running and while all this may appear an empty space, Opera Unite will eventually grow given that it puts the developer community in charge of putting their innovation to practicality. This on the other is also going to put some brains in our otherwise extremely dumb and dependant computers. I mean why depend on third parties for the most minute things like sharing files and media when you can have access directly and give those servers all the power over the web when you can keep a bit of it to yourself (to a certain extent). Lawrence Eng, Opera’s product analyst has an interesting and informative read about Opera Unite here.
