A report from Hitwise shows that one sector they continue to monitor is the Shopping and Classified category, to gain an insight into consumer behavior amidst current economic climate. Consumers are aware of price sensitivity and are flocking more visits to the websites of online retailers, coupons, and comparison shopping tools. Shoppers increasingly research potential purchases online as well.
Consumers are logging-on to buy & sell websites mostly to sell and support their income and also seek to save on spending by buying used-goods. Thus, showing significant growth in the classified category – which in turn boosted the website traffic on the Classifieds websites, and it experienced the highest traffic in July this year. Grocery websites were 2nd in terms of year-by-year growth, pointing also towards the growth of shoppers collecting coupons and information on weekly specials.
House and Garden came in next with home owners turning to retailers and avoiding the weakened real estate market. The Rewards and Directories category, which consists of comparison shopping tools, also received higher traffic in July comparatively with the previous year.
Hitwise’s current Search Intelligence offers insights into the share of Paid and Organic search traffic for individual websites. And in the coming week, they’ll be upgrading the tools to include even more details into the search landscape.
