Besides announcing to make lay offs, the Finnish mobile giant also announced its production plans for a line of cheaper mobile phones in India, to aim for an increase in its sales revenue. As Nokia (NOK) is already reaping higher revenues from China, southeast Asia-Pacific, India, the Middle East, and Africa each year, the company has decided to take on India’s rural population. As China Mobile Corporation, the largest mobile company in the world, already bought a service provider in Pakistan (Paktel, the fifth largest service provider), Nokia hopes to follow suit and target these markets through cheaper products and attractive prices.
