Nintendo has partnered with Dentsu, a Japanese advertising company, to distribute streaming video programming via Nintendo Wii. The Wii based video streaming is scheduled to be launched in Japan in 2009, with offerings in the Western worlds to follow shortly.
According to a statement issued by Nintendo and translated by AFP, the service would initially have a mix of ad supported but free and pay-to-watch videos. The statement particularly emphasized the fact that the move will allow Wii enabled living rooms to have more fun with what they could do on their TV sets.
