MySpace Music: ‘We had streamed a billion song soon after launch’

There have been plans at hitting out targets at the earliest and despite the limitation of the service being available only for the U.S users, MySpace has hit the target of streaming one billion songs.

TechCrunch reports of this achievement that according to MySpace had been achieved only  a few days after the service had been launched. A Statement from MySpace speaks the same:

We can confirm that we hit a milestone of one billion music streams in only a few days after launching the new product however because this number may be inflated by the high profile launch and accompanying promotional push, we will be looking to our metrics on engagement and unique users which will tell a much richer story on how positively the community is responding to the new music experience.

It’s interesting that iTunes that has dominated the music market over the web took around three years to reach this milestone. So does iTunes has a force it ought to reckon? Giving free streaming music to its users, letting them create a playlist as well as an option to buy their favorite songs via Amazon, MySpace Music has what it takes to bring challenge to the iTunes.

That might be far too early to predict, but with time the prediction may very well turn to a reality. The obvious reason is everyone benefits from this, from users who et to hear free songs, to labels that are paid via ad deals that MySpace has with various firms.
