Although the Facebook was decorated with ads from the top advertisers in the U.S., the social network couldn’t do better than the rival MySpace which seems to be a little less popular. This was pointed out in an article on today’s Wall Street Journal. The article reads:
[Facebook] says 70 of the U.S.’s 100 largest advertisers have advertised on its site since 2007. But its share of total number of U.S. online display ad views was just 1.1%, according to market research firm comScore Inc., in its most recent report in June. News Corp.
’s Fox Interactive Media Unit, which includes rival MySpace.com, is the market leader with 15.9% of display-ad spending, according to comScore.
Facebook currently contains more than 120 million active users. In the current year, the social network is expecting a revenue between $300-$350 million. On the other hand, MySpace made a share deal with Google which will pay them double of what Facebook is expecting. Facebook can generate a lot more than what is earning right now if they change their strategy a little bit.
