MyGameMug is community that helps connect like-minded gamers via a matchmaking algorithm for all games and platforms. Founded by Raymond Lau and Erik Yao with an objective to create a portal for online gamers an engaging and effective place to analyze the gaming style of an individual and then link him up with those who share the similar gaming habits.
The analysis is based on a series of questions that a user is asked (only if he/she wills to); the answers to these questions help GameMug figure out the gaming habits. Attitude, interests and hardware that the user likes best to go gaming at. The results let GameMug place you in one of the 16 categories it has for GameMuggers.
As you proceed answering the questions GameMug puts forward its matches and the accuracy of these matches increases as you answer more questions. Once done the results show people who are the closest matches to your taste and let you directly interact with them or use the scheduler available on the site to set a future date and time for a showdown.
The site had a pretty good response over the week with over 12,000 people taking the full test 85 out of ever hundred reporting the resulting matches to be satisfactory a long with their placement in one of the sixteen categories.
The gaming did need some automated recommendation for hardcore gamers but coming up with such a system definitely helps them find out the right guy to enjoy; their gaming experience with. What remains to be seen as to how good the algorithm gets over time? As it comes directly from their blog:
Our next goal is to make the matching algorithm tighter now that we have a bunch of members and improving the event system along side it.
