Online music startup Muxtape which was accused for hosting illegal content and was shut down by RIAA last month, seems to be coming back from the dead. Justin Ouellette has written a post on the homepage of Muxtape explaining why he had to shut down the site. Justin said that he was trying to confirm deals with the big labels but RIAA which represents them, has created a lot of fuss and created a mess for his site. The site was booted off from Amazon’s AWS cloud platform. Now the website reads, ‘Muxtape relaunching soon’. This time it seems real but it won’t be the usual one, it will be a “New Muxtape”.
While explaining the features of the new Muxtape, Justin said:
The new Muxtape will allow bands to upload their own music and offer an embeddable player that works anywhere on the web, in addition to the original muxtape format. Bands will be able to assemble an attractive profile with simple modules that enable optional functionality such as a calendar, photos, comments, downloads and sales, or anything else they need.
Does it seems that the site is now going to feature underground bands only? Is the new site going to affect the users? I guess so, why? Because for bands this is a great opportunity but for users, this might not be something which he/she was getting earlier. The site is expected in the coming few weeks so lets keep our fingers crossed and see what happens. What do you think about the “New Muxtape”, will it be better than the previous one?
