There have been a few big news yesterday at the Facebook f8 conference with news like the Social Graph, Plugins, the Web wide Like , Microsoft Docs for Facebook and the most important: Make Social the Default. There was another important announcement: Pandora coming to Facebook. With this, users will be able to stream music from Pandora.
This news is just another hint at how everything will come and sink into Facebook. Again there is more emphasis on the Like feature. Users will be able to play music and tracks right within their social profile from the artists that they have liked on any site across the Web and that has a like button. This isn’t coming out of the blues. Many services have been trying to get more social and thus more engaging. Pandora is no different and as Tim Westergren put in his own words: the music streaming service was already looking forward to make it more social.
With the current move, users will be able to share their activity and the music they are listening to on their profiles and eventually their friends. So you see how this is going to help services outside grow? This isn’t about Facebook benefitting alone from its Like, or being default socially, it’s bringing the same for services too. Think of it:
Wold you ever put a banner of my product on your shop if it only did me good?
Never, you would have my presence only if it benefits you in return and Facebook is doing that. It’s more of a barter, which is why third party apps and services are more than willing to accept it. I listen to music at Pandora and click like, immediately that is updated on my profile and visible to all my connections, at least one of them would click on the link too and head over to Pandora. That’s a fair deal in my opinion and if you are one of those who detest Facebook doing this, remember this simple thing:
You will have to quit the Web entirely to actually Quit Facebook.
