Mozilla is set to bring geo-tagging to its prized Firefox users via their project named Geode. The idea is to help improve overall browsing experience of its users using their physical location. Geode is to give Firefox an edge at understanding and utilising the geographic information across the Web.
The functioning of how Geode would help with geo-location is still unclear but in short the Geode would be helpful:
a user who is looking for restaurants while they are out of town will be able load up their favorite review site and find suggestions a couple blocks away and plot directions there
It baffles me up as to how this would be done, given that Firefox is not yet out for mobile devices where it can extract location data via the GPS. However there is a possibility of using the IP on one’s computer that could help plot the location of a user. Well one will have to wait and see until it’s out for download.
