motorola logo Motorola gearing up to release its first Android phone: the Social Smart Phone As Motorola is busy recruiting 350 people to work on its generation of Android phones, it is closing in on the first one, the Android Social Smart Phone. There was a job posting spotted earlier (which has been removed), and a post that also covers the topic. Motorola is investing $50 million into its Android project, being run by a team from Good Technology, Motorola’s mobile e-mail company.

This clearly indicates that the company is working towards a breakthrough, as it literally needs one. The phone isn’t expected until the second quarter of 2009. The design will include a touch-screen similar to the iPhone, and a slide-out keyboard like the G1 (launching on Wednesday), though it’ll look more like the Motorola Krave, and is expected to be cheaper than G1’s price.

Now for the social part: How is Motorola going to unleash its feature? G1 import contacts from Gmail into the phone, maybe the Motorola Android phone will have something similar to that, though aimed at social networking.
