Reports are coming in that the creator of the Facebook Page that promoted Draw Mohammad Day, Molly Norris has apologized the Muslim world according to Dawn News. This is quite a good sign to cool off the angry Muslim population of Facebook, especially in Pakistan where the social network has been blocked.
The page currently has close to 90,000 users and Molly has very clearly stated that she has nothing to do with the caricatures being drawn and that most of the images there are obscene and insulting to the Muslim Faith. In a statement, she said:
I never started a Facebook page; I never set up any place for people to send drawings to and I never received any drawings
And then apologized:
I apologize to people of Muslim faith and ask that this ‘day’ be called off…
I appreciate Molly stepping forward and doing this, at least it clarifies that the page had been taken over by hateful elements and abused. I just hope Facebook acts a bit more responsibly now and removed it totally.

If you are aware of Islamic history, you would know that Prophet Muhammad himself was subjected to severe hardships during his lifetime. He was insulted, he was even physically assaulted to the point where his boots filled with blood.
Neither did he curse the persecutors, nor later on punished them when he gained power.
Who are “WE”, as followers of such a noble man, to decide who should be punished and who should be not?
I got seriously disturbed when I got the news of such a day being held, and how it had all begun. I was more disturbed however to see how the Muslims took it. Its pathetic. We reacted in exactly the way Muhammad (pbuh) WOULDN’T have reacted if he were here with us today.
If this day was so offending, which I am sure it was, a much better and rational response would have been to post YOUR side of the story. Record videos explaining YOUR perception of the Prophet, right on blogs, debate and discuss in a peaceful manner. Boycotting and banning and asking for severe punishment is pure ignorance.

In the first place, does “freedom of expression” allow people to insult holy personalities of other religion or even a single human being? and why Muslims and why only Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)? Have you ever thought about drawing cartoons of other sacred personalities of other religions, Gandhi, Buddha or else?

If someone drew or said something offensive about my family, yeah, I would be angry. I would demand they apologize/remove the drawings, or whatever. If they didn’t, I would try some more. But if they really didn’t listen, I would leave it alone. I agree, this is MASSIVE for Muslims. But think about it – did this impact them? Other than one of the admin’s stuff getting hacked, the page is still there. Did they care? No. If we wanted to do something, our government should have talked to the American government about this. Figured something out. Not staged protests, blocked Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Wikipedia. In the end, we were the ones that suffered. Technologically speaking, of course.
