The title might seem absurd or down right stupid to you, but it is true nevertheless. A couple of weeks back we reported that June 30th, 2008 would be the last day when Microsoft will ever sell Windows XP. Back than we didn’t knew that Microsoft will come up with such a lousy technique to sell Windows Vista or may I say sell Windows XP again.
Microsoft will not be selling Windows XP from today onwards and any one who wants to get hold of this Operating System would have to buy Windows Vista and than "legally downgrade" to Windows XP. This is the same technique that retailers use to get rid of their back dated inventory or items that couldn’t be sold out normally i.e. put them on sale or bundle them with a hot item.
Microsoft has taken the decision of abandoning the sales of Windows XP despite popular demand. A group of vocal computer users rallied around a "Save XP" petition on InfoWorld to force Microsoft into thinking otherwise, or at least keep selling it till we have Windows 7 in the market. It seems that Windows Vista is selling at such a low pace or lets call it not selling at all that Microsoft is left with no option whatsoever but to eliminate all competition to Vista. It turns out that the greatest competitor to Vista was none other than Windows XP, so unfortunately XP had to be shunned in favor of Vista.
Do we need any more prove that Vista is nothing but crap.

Meh, enough with them, I thinks its time to do the complete move to ubuntu. Enough with this nonsense, Selling, not selling, Service pack 1, 2, 3…. Whatever. I’ll be on the reliable, free, and charming little penguin….
Quiet True Kafka. OS X would be another option in case someone wants to take the commercial route IMHO.
Thanks to Vista, I broke down and bought a MacBook.
This was several months ago, and I still love love love it! Python’s on it right out of the box and I’m having fun checking out Google App Engine with it.
Option 2 would be the cheap laptop with Ubuntu. Ubuntu’s nice, too. Unix lives on, looks like Windows may just be a dead end, too bad.
I don’t mind people kickin my butt for it, but I like Windows Vista. It didn’t slow down as much as Windows XP used to do (after continuous usage). I’ve been using it since RC1, and while I believe they did brush some things under the carpet to keep up with postponing deadlines..it looks better and feels better too.
Let’s make one thing very clear, Vista needs much better hardware than XP.
Did it increase my productivity? Yes! I didn’t have to re-install Vista as often as XP, that itself was a big saving in terms of time.
I also gladly tell you that Mac OS X (I’ve used Tiger for a few months) looks better, is even faster than Vista. But then, it’s Mac. You can run it on PC legally. So, while I’m a potential mac-boy once I can afford a Mac Book Pro for myself, the PC (and Vista) will rule till then.
