With Yahoo’s plans at buying out AOL might have triggered Microsoft to think about purchasing the combined unit of Yahoo/AOL. Why? Well it might not give Microsoft a mammoth boost but it has the potential to give Microsoft up to 25% share in the search market. There has been no comment from any of the three parties over this but there are chances of it being in discussion, especially for Yahoo/Google deal rolling down the slopes.
Now Yahoo is up and looking for a major boost in its stock, that have been hovering around as low as $18 dollars and if the deal with Google falls prey to the anti-trust then they might fall further to $15. Investors would definitely wave off their hands to any company that takes such massive plunges and Yahoo has sadly become one.
It’s of interest that both Yahoo and AOL are looking forward for a way to pull them out of their misery. AOL has seen its revenue deteriorate and fall by 16% to $1.1 billion as of last year. Plus Yahoo is continually pushed by new board members, especially Icahn to go on with sort of deal and get back on track.
So why Microsoft wants to push its hands in? Obviously the giant has seen enough of Google at the top and wants to come up with something to push its rank closer to Google in the Search business. So it appears we have got a desperate trio eager to work around a plan within their triangle. One eyes gaining in stock share, the other to regains its previous position in online business and the third (Microsoft) to gain everything there is to be gained. There are threats to Google in case Microsoft buys Yahoo/AOL merger. First it will lose its search ad deal with Yahoo, second Microsoft will definitely kill the AOL-Google search deal.
I wonder where all this drama end? Something just keeps pushing out of the Google, Yahoo, Microsoft sector that smells of massive unrest in the web world.
