Microsoft has cut short its Live Labs group (that release Photosynth last year); the groups created to provide the product teams with innovative ideas, determining what the team should work upon after voting. The reason for this slashing is the recession which has made Microsoft reconsider the tasks of the group. The members will be divided to focus in Microsoft’s division for search and the products group where they will concentrate on products like Windows Mobile etc. I would agree with Microsoft’s spokeswoman, Stacy Drake McCredy that the tough economic situation does put a dent on such but I guess it’s becoming more of a norm amongst giants to let go of such ventures. Why I think of that is plain, if economy is what troubles Microsoft, why didn’t they slash the workforce as well? Perhaps the idea is to boost current services and compete within the current market.
