Remember Michael Arrington’s call for help on a hardware project, specifically a $200 minimalist web tablet? Yeah that was six months ago you might say, but behold the project comes to life.
The machine is superb, and it does whatever it was planned to do. It boots, browses the net, and operates and ,most importantly the touch works smoothly.
The real question for us is whether this project has legs and should go forward towards production units, which is a very big step from a working prototype. That would require spinning the company off from the blog and building a team around Louis. It’s a decision we haven’t made yet. Arrington said in his statement.
But was it really a $200 laptop? No says Arrington, mentioning that it was more close to $299. But keeping the hardware in view that was 1GB of RAM, and 4GB flash drive, I think it was worth the effort and cost.
What do you think? Should Michael and his team go ahead and make these laptops in bulk?
