Another one of the services has bitten the dust; the latest service is Social.fm, a portal for Social music delivery as reported by GigaOm. Known as Mercora before it recently re-branded itself to Social.fm, finally pulled the shutters down and suspend all operations and you get to know this after it displays the following message as you pay it a visit:
The Company is unfortunately no longer in business and therefore cannot continue its service to you. Regards, Mercora, Inc.
That sounds pretty astonishing as the Sunnyvale, Calif. Based Company that was launched in June 2005 had some partnership on a run with Microsoft; one that would have brought an experience worth trying to the customers of Windows Mobile. It also included a free lifetime subscription to Social.FM for all Microsoft employees worldwide.
The service had about $5 million from VC added with the backing of Microsoft failed to kick the service for a longer run and it failed to mint profits. The other reason for this could be the more popular and active music sites like last.fm made sure it didn’t stand for long in the competition. Nonetheless there has been no news as to what is going to happen with its assets and the domain itself.
