Only 4% of all the websites are hazardous according to McAfee’s report released yesterday. Criteria for making risky sites is not same everywhere; bad cyber guys build these sites where it seems feasible for them.
The tech-security company has ranked domains (.com, .hk, .org, .au, .jp, etc.) according to the number of risky sites they contain. Risky websites contain files which, if downloaded, can provide hacker control of user’s computer, also if a form is filled out, it may start flooding your e-mail account.
McAfee has maintained reports of each domain separately. According to them 5% of .com (which is an average) are risky. The major threat is from doubtful domains like .info which contains 12% of risky sites. .hk (Hong Kong) has the highest risky sites which are 19%. The reason described in the report tells that Hong Kong motivate users to sign up for multiple sites at a time without filling application for each domain. The domain was promoted internationally with a ‘Buy one get one free‘ offer.
According to McAfee, The Pacific Tokelau (.tk), which once allowed users to register anonymously for free have changed their policies, sighting last year’s report.
The California based company also says that countries which have maintained rigid policies, have fewer risky sites. Finland (.fi), Japan (.jp), Norway (.no), Slovenia (.si) and Colombia (.co) have risen in the safest website category where as Hong Kong (.hk) was rated as the most dangerous domain followed by PR of China (.cn), Philippines (.ph), Romania (.ro) and Russia (.ru).
Situation in The Philippines (.ph) is alarming as they have experienced 270% increase in overall risky sites where as in Europe, Spain (.es) has experienced 91% of overall increase.
Websites offering downloads which are loaded with viruses have increased up to 1.4%. One good news is that the websites which automatically installs malicious software (having virus, trojan, adware, etc.) are just .07% of overall sites which is amazing. Now you don’t to be extra-cautious to protect your system.
Internet has never been a safe place but with the advent of softwares like antivirus, antispyware, antiadware, etc., it has become a safer place. Now its hard for hackers to find a safe heaven to continue their malicious activities. Some countries have observed abrupt change in their rankings which is the result of their inefficient and inconsistent policies. Cyber world is becoming a safe place but there will always be room for intruders. Lets hope this place proves to be much safer place.
