Amazon’s Kindle 2 that was scheduled to be ship in October this year in time for the holiday season has now been pushed further into the future due to software issues and may come to market in Q1, 2009. Reports are also surfacing about a student model with a larger screen that could come to market sometime in the first half of 2009.
According to BGR, the current rumors could mean one of the following:
- Today’s rumors are way off and Amazon indeed intends to start shipping out the current Kindle model for orders placed recently, leaving the Kindle 2 release for later in the year.
- Amazon may be putting off fulfillment and we can indeed look forward to a mid to late February release for the Kindle 2.
- Amazon plans to offer the current and updated Kindle models concurrently, which would definitely piss off anyone who orders the first-generation model between now and February.
