The partnership will allow KickApps to bring Akamai’s Stream OS video management capability to its video player. The Akamai partnership will enable KickApps to support HD deployments, mass video uploads, geo-restrictions, ad integration into the KickApps video player and other video specific tasks.

In addition to this KickApps video player would enable users to create darg-and-drop video player, a comprehensive media management system, and social media enhancements.

KickApps is promising that the pricing for the new features, which is based on usage, will be extremely low and affordable. The deal would allow KickApps to compete with Brightcove and Maven Networks in the high-end video publishing domain.

KickApps initial service was a Ning like platform for media publishers to build communities, but the new partnership will allow KickApps to really dig into the video space.

Alex Blum, CEO of KickApps commented on the occasion:

Web publishers have few viable options when it comes to affordable, enterprise-level video publishing solutions that include deep, out-of-the-box social media functionality. By integrating the two solutions – social & media applications and an enterprise scale video management and distribution solution – web publishers have the means to handle even the most advanced media requirements. With on-demand deployment, we are enabling web publishers to dramatically reduce costs and time-to-market.
