Kaltura, the developer of the first open source video platform to manage, create, interact, and collaborate with videos has announced the release of version 1.0 of their interactive video plugin for Wordpress. The plugin can be downloaded from the official Wordpress download site.
The new plugin will enable blogs hosted on Wordpress to add video capabilities like video posting and sharing. In addition to this readers of the blogs could add video comments to posts. Further more the plugin provides collaborative video editing to help you out in case you host a group edited blog.
Commenting on the occasion Ron Yekutiel, Kultura’s CEO said:
Kaltura’s open source strategy is already proving itself – the community has warmly embraced our MediaWiki extension, and the beta version of the new WordPress plugin is already being used by many bloggers and has received enthusiastic reviews so far. We’re looking forward to seeing more and more blogs using interactive videos with the release of this first official version. Video is becoming an inseparable part of the blogging world. Our plugin enables bloggers not only to easily upload and display videos, but they can also create mixes and slide shows, and engage their users in a real and compelling conversation.
To sum up the new plugin, bloggers can now:
-
Upload, and import videos directly to their blog post;
-
Edit and remix videos using Kaltura’s online full-featured video editor;
-
Easily import video and other forms of rich-media from other sites and social networks, and;
-
Allow readers and subscribers to add video and audio comments, and to participate in collaborative videos.
The plugin comes with controls at a very granular level. Blog administrators can decide as to who gets to create and edit a video or whether they should allow users to post video comments or not. In addition to this all the videos on the blogs could be tracked just like you can track all your posts and comments from a management console.
I must say that this has become a serious poke in the eye of Seesmic.
