Just Leap In – another me-too virtual world

Bilal Hameed

Just Leap In 3D worlds are the new gold rush after the social networks. The phenomena first brought to fame by SecondLife is now been mimicked by Google itself via Lively. According to a report investors put $184 million in 23 virtual worlds in the first quarter of 2008. With so much money chasing so many people, its not unlikely to have a virtual world prop up every other day.

Just Leap In is yet another virtual world that wants you to have a virtual representation of yourself and the people around you. The service is still in beta and you would need to request for an account to get one.

The service offers all the features that we are now used to of in virtual worlds like tools to create 3D world and share photos, videos, news and music, connect with friends. The service thinks that they are different from the rest of the crowd, here is how:

How are you different?

Typically, 3D worlds have been only for those willing to trade in their lives for a digital version, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

We will help you build rich, immersive 3D worlds to express yourself casually, socially, professionally, artistically, playfully – any way you want. And have fun doing it.

If you couldn’t make it out that how in the world is this new entrant any different from Second Life or Google Lively, you need not worry because I myself am wondering about it till now. The browser support at the moment is limited to firefox and IE.

But at the end of the day, it would be an opportunity for a VC who might be looking to invest in a virtual world but didn’t find a chance till now.
